Job Description:
LECTURER - MARINE ENGINEERING
The Engineering Department at the Maritime College has a position available for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Marine Engineering. This position is available for the Fall 2010 term, subject to funding approval.
Duties include:
* teaching lower division engineering courses
* teaching USCG license preparation courses
* assisting in laboratories
* preparation of instructional materials
* serving as an engineering watch officer and instructor during two of every three Summer Sea Training Periods aboard the T.S. Empire State
Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Bachelors degree in engineering, and also hold, or have previously held, a USCG Engineer license for steam and motor vessels of unlimited horsepower, including required STCW endorsements.
Preferred Qualifications (required for appointment as Senior Lecturer):
* Current USCG license with STCW endorsement
* Management-level USCG Engineer license for steam and motor vessels of unlimited horsepower, with STCW endorsements
* A graduate degree in engineering or a related field, or willingness to pursue such a degree concurrent with service obligations.
* Prior teaching experience, especially in engineering or in marine technology related fields.
These will be non-tenure track, twelve-month positions for an initial term of one year, with multiple year extensions possible by mutual consent. Compensation includes a full benefits package. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
